Website NJF
This is the website I've design and programmed for the NJF. I chose to use social media in the website so that our name's
reputation may widen. The banner in the header is a interactive image slider that shows differnt illustrations.
Logo NJF
Some of my friends had thought to organize tjhe Dutch Juggling Festival. They asked me if I wanted to organization and be the
designer.
That includes: logos, banners, website, posters, flyers and t-shits and much more.
This is the logo I have made. I've chosen to use the shape of the Vasim (the building where the festival held in) to combine it to the logo.
Redesign Ikpoll
During my internship at Mediamatic I was asked to look at the visualizations of the Ikpoll.
The ikpoll is a poll that you can vote on with a RFID chip. The whole idea behind it is that people come and
vote for there favorite person or item. The visualization was just a simple bar graph.
Now my idea was to get the social part of voting. I wanted to do something with how people are voting
, when are they voting and do they all vote in a sort of ritme according to what the person you can vote on has to say.
So I designed this visualization. You can see the ritme of how a person votes, when that person votes and in what order.
and of course what idea is winning the vote. The data is inputed by XML and when ever you press the 's' button you can sort
the list by color to have a claer look of who is winning the poll.
Visible data part 3
The third part of the project was to convert my sketches in to posters.
That will be shown at an exposition of visible data in Bratislava.
The last first two graphics are showing all the tables of money.
The last two are showing only one table per print so I made a series of all the different tables with these prints.
Visible data part 2
The second part of this project was to make some visualisations for there newspaper.
So I modified my sketches to fit the specifications.
Visible data part 1
During my internship at Mediamatic. I asked for the project data visible [www.visibledata.info]. Along with a fellow designer of
Mediamatic and Maurits de Bruijn, we then made a number of visualizations of the state budget and then all focus on culture.
The first thing to do was to make a interactive website version. You could navigate thru the graphic by mouse clicks.
This is one of the versions I've made that they thought where the best.
Bike & Bamboo
Here I have a flyer and poster designed for friends of mine. Who gave a variety show for charity.
The flyer should include everything that was going on and had noticed and accessible for all ages.
Hence the choice of this colorful design with iconography.
Philips design awards
I have made a visualization for philips design of the number of awards over the years they have earned. The concept is to show
how the interfaces have changed over the years. You can see this through the placement of the blocks. These are all ment for a
particular form in the interface. And if you look at the shapes you see that every year has its own shape and is constantly
changing.
Alternative money app
This app is made for a new form of payment. The idea behind this alternative payment method that you paid with the gene that you are good at. The system is divided into two parts that are physical and
mental work.
The app shows what you earned in the service. This is done by means of icons that indicate time and service type. This way you can see at a glance what you deserve or have given. These credits you can
earn and then
exchange them for a service of the same species. This way everyone has a job he or she can fulfill.
Voting machine
This is a voting machine made for the floating voter. Based on old games like Simcity and Rollercoaster tycoon.
Upload your ideal provincial assembly through placing the various
items on the map. But these things do not go without consequences. If you place some objects you can not use others. You
also get warnings about the choices you make.
See in the future
I have chosen a published picture from a tennis ball fell to the ground.
To predict what would happen with this ball, I made a system that one up the ball again and again drop the ball with the same
parameters. These are all photographed and later placed together on a poster.
Water screen
The concept was: pixelation create water jets. I chose six
sets of RGB LEDs. With this project I went into the water jets.
The lights themselves can check them on and off. It is intended
that this way you can make a kind of animation. This project is
not finished I would like to continue it.
Eliza
Eliza is a chatbot that functions as a psychologist.
Eliza works on which these rules can be downloaded.
With these rules we had to make a different kind of Eliza.
I have chosen to give Eliza OCD. But I wanted to do somthing with
the user to. So I chose to let the user feel what it's like to have OCD
By aking him questions like: are you shure about this don't you think you schould do it over?
I have opted for an analog version of Eliza as a challenge that many more
than would be digital. I have a request form created
that perfectly explain the rules of Eliza.
You must fill out the questions and search for answers on the answer
sheet to see what it could be. This way you going to
talk with Eliza.
Augmented fluxus route
The assignment was making a story where there is none.
It seemed an interesting idea for something to do with
the city environment. I have created a random generator
which showed me the way through a city I have a grid
that linked to it on the map of the city to be laid.
That way you get in places where you otherwise would
never come. What a story in itself is. Here I also have
the concept of agmented reality coupled with Fluxus. So if
you walk the route you wil see Fluxus art. Here I made
an interactive preview of the routes I've walked.
Analog plotter
For my minor typography was instructed to to create a dynamic font.
I then decided to go for an analog plotter with restrictions
built into it. I did this by making several molds where the user had
to draw with.
(better pictures are coming)
Handwrithing former
For my minor typography I did a study of handwritten scripts.
To conclude this study, I made with flash an interactive handwrithing former.
Here you can take the letter and transform it in to the way you would write.
You can change everything like: rotate, position of X and Y, delete parts etc.
Macrumors visualisation
This is a project I did for my minor conceptual type design. We had
to take an RSS feed and make a set a of rules that bind your design
.So I chose MacRumors and through this infographic
I'm showing the negative, positive and the number of comments.
Runmaps
An iPhone app made with HTML5 and Jquery.
The idea was to make the perfect app for a jogger.
Since I recently started running it was the perfect time to start here.
Some features: Your own results by means of a specially made infographic. You can see the results of another user. You can compare results with those of another. And there is a playlist that BMP seeks out the best song for you walking rhythm. And these are just a few of the Functions.
Twelve angry men
This film is about a boy who is blamed for the murder of his father.
There are 12 jurors who decided his fate. Now there's a podcast of
This American Life that a similar story just exact opposite. We
now had to tell this story through typography and audio from the movie.
I have chosen to go experimenting with an old slide projector and
depth images.
Sound Map metro stations
Here I made a soundmap metro stations.
I chose for a Subway map because they are so colorful.
And it's clear where the lines are going.
This map I made with MaxMSP and it works by using your mouse to drag over the lines. The color value is transformed into a sound value. And you can customize your audio in the effects window.
Infographic Dutch army peace missions
On this infographic you can see where our tax money goes.
The Netherlands are also involved in peace missions.
But that costs a lot of money on this map, I will show
how much that money is and what kind of mission it was,
and what these missions mean.
Resistor visualisation
The assignment was to visualize the Resistor set. I have chosen for audio but also for visuals.
All possible sequences of a four-color resistance can be found on the poster. These colors are converted
to audio clips. If you play you get a serenade of small beeps for more than an hour.
2 envelopes paradox
This paradox is about as a quizmaster asks what you want A or B envelope
and if you have made a choice, that choice should remain unchanged.
Now I have done in this same 50 people registered their choice. And I have
made little infographics of there choises and put that in a book.
The bows represent there choises good or bad acording to the paradox.
Fibonacci
The Fibonacci series is a mathematical calculation that I've
visualized by placing small fibonacci series in a larger
version. I did this through Processing.
Harmonograph
The task was to visualize a natural phenomenon.
So I chose for kinetic energy. For this to visualize
I chose to build a harmonograph. And to link it
to a Wacom tablet. Which in turn was linked to
my macbook that remade the patterns digitally.
The X and Y position of the stylus on the tablet forms the
visualisation on the screen.
Movie poster creator
The assignment was to do something with a RSS feed. So I choose a movie news RSS feed.
And made a script that would make posters out of every feed. The pictures are scraped from
google images and the other information is from the RSS feed.
Apollo 13 mailbox
The Apollo 13 mailbox everyone knows this story.
To help the astronauts I designed small cards
with the instructions in symbolic form on it. So that everyone
from any country could understand what to do. The cards are
in a small box so that if they are in space the tickets won't go anywhere.
Graphic design museum
The assignment was to display a museum in a differnt way.
So I chose the graphic design museum in Tilburg.
I chose a folded booklet that I've programmed with processing.
When you unfold it you see all the information about the museum.
If you do then unfold again see several works from the museum.
Every time the app is started there are differnt work in the booklet.
It is therefore intended that this app can be downloaded and then you can
print and fold it your self.
Photogrid
Here's a picture grid that filtered through Javascript and Jquery. There is an invisible gird about every photo.
If you're one of the buttons to click away those subjects of the photo. So you can make your own street view.
World Heritage Map
This infographic shows all the UNESCO World Heritages see.
It shows how many and how large the number of hectares that
each country is Heritages.
One square meter archive
The assignment was take a spot of a square meter and go watch it.
And register at least 5 times a week what the changes are.
I chose a grid that was at my house. On this site you will see
changes daily. These I photographed and put into black and
white on the schedule so that you can clearly see what had happened.
Later I converted it through processing from light to dark.
So you can see which days are most changed. This resulted in a poster
series of three posters.
Motiondetect filter
The assignment was to make a filter. I've started to place a webcam
aimed at the crossroads at my street. Because many traffic stops
to go to the coffeeshop who is around the corner, there
is always someone there. I had my webcam set up so that when there was
movement things would be registered. These files I later met a MaxMSP
patch around so he could filter out all motion. These pictures I
took are all placed together and there came the series of posters
that you see below.
Wie ken jij
Wie ken jij (Who do you know) is an interactive graphic created with flash.
The idea behind this project, many people are on Facebook, MySpace or other
social networks. But do you really know these people? Or are they just your
making your friends list bigger.
So I made a form where with attached to it the infographic that you tells you which person you most have spoken with the most and which person you had the biggest conversation with. But is this person really your best friend? Do you know this person is in real life?
American Psycho titel sequence
Anyone who has seen this film knows what kind of man the main character is.
He only cares about his expensive brands.
He also says "I'm an empty shell that is only the outside but inside
lurks a monster. " I tried to visualize this through the title sequence
The digital book
The idea was to create a new kind of library.
Because in the future the traditional book may no
longer exist, I see what I can to keep it real
book but in a digital format. I chose a transparent
book that projected in the back. This way you can see
a whole series of books in different ways. After that
you can scan them through an RFID reader and download
the book to your iPad or E-reader.
ASCII key combinations
Here are all ASCII keyboard shortcuts on my iBook G4, mapped using a grid with the CMYK colors. On this map you can see which
combinations are present and which do not. And the ones you can find on a standard PC and not on my iBook.
